To work around these limitations, a fully customized sealing system was developed:
The design focused on flexibility. The adapter plate was built to allow on-site drilling and fitment, making installation possible even with incomplete initial measurements. The use of SiC/SiC sealing faces provides exceptional resistance to abrasive particles commonly found in silty water, helping maximize seal reliability, reduce maintenance requirements, and extend service life.
Design & Collaboration
Due to the inability to fully inspect or measure the vessel interface at the beginning of the project, the design process emphasized flexibility and adaptability:
PSS / AES Seal #AZT5471923712014A with PSS Mounting Flange #07-F11-0AES.
The final solution enabled the customer to proceed with installation planning without requiring prolonged downtime or full system disassembly. The ability to adapt the adapter plate on-site was a critical factor in maintaining project momentum.
Long Term Benefits
This project demonstrates how a flexible, application-specific approach can solve complex installation challenges. By adapting the design to real-world constraints and selecting SiC/SiC sealing faces for operation in dirty, silty water conditions, the final solution delivered both immediate performance and long-term reliability. The result is a durable sealing system designed to minimize maintenance requirements and maximize service life in a demanding commercial fishing environment.
